Secret First Step to Lasting Weight Loss
Chronicles of my Weight Struggles Vol 3.
The Simple Truth No One is Willing to Tell You.
First things first, you need to change if you want to see something change. I know it sounds simple, but so many times, people want to keep doing what they have been doing, which got them where they are today, somehow expecting a different result.
Take a good look at where you are in your health and weight management journey.
Is this where you want to be?
If not, how did you get here?
If you want a different result, don’t do what you have done. I don’t mean you don’t do what you have been doing just long enough to get where you want to be and then return to past behaviors.
That doesn’t work. Logically, that makes no sense, but I, too, have been guilty of the same thing.
Secret number one
You must realize you need to make a life-long change. That is the truth.
In my past articles, I discussed how I started I started on my weight loss journey. I have also talked about how I realized I needed to do something different. I also talked about all the other avenues I explored to finally get me to this place — sustainable weight loss and management.
Yes, I am in that elusive place that most talk about and dream about. I have a stable, healthy weight. It is a fabulous place to be. I have lived in this place for over 15 years.
I write these articles so you can join me here. I can show you the path and cheer you on, but you must do the work. Only you can change yourself. Only you can take this journey. Only you can make this decision. The lovely thing is you don’t have to walk it alone. I am happy to walk this path with you.
Do you recognize that you need to make a change?
If you are not there yet and still think you can keep doing what you currently do and have a healthy body. You are not ready to take any more steps. However, recognizing the need for change is critical before lasting transformation can occur. It is worth repeating.
If you want to do something different, you must do something different.
Secret number two
You need to have a strong reason or purpose for making such a change.
The reason you want to make this change needs to be clear to you in your mind. There are loads of reasons you might want to make this change or any other change. You will only really commit toit if you have a strong reason or purpose. For me, I received a wake-up call regarding my health. I was in my late twenties and had developed high cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar. I was too young to be so sick. My nursing training told me that I could reverse it with weight loss. So that is what I did.
Here I make it sound as simple as flipping a switch. It was not quite that easy, and I had to work on it every day, every bite, at every meal. It is a decision I make constantly.
That reason for you could be related to your family. Maybe you want a high quality of life in your later years. Perhaps there is a physical activity you endeavor to complete. It could be as simple as you want to look good in your clothes, have energy, and like what you see in the mirror.
Maybe you aspire to look good in a bathing suit. The reason only matters to you. It should be vital to you. Important enough to make these changes and tackle the difficult road of transformation.
Secret number three
Decide to change.
Once you realize you must make a change. You know why you need to change. You have a strong reason or purpose for making the changes required. Next is the actual decision “to change.”
It is all up to you. Again, I know it seems simplistic and unnecessary, but you will not succeed long-term without this step. Deciding to change is critical.
You should feel your decision deep inside, at your core.
Making this decision is something you want or maybe need at a basic level to do for yourself. Decide not to let anyone stand in your way, especially yourself.
