Black Cohosh
Vitanica
1 capsule; Once per day (With lunch)
This supplement will assist with symptoms of menopause, particularly hot flashes. It is processed through the liver. If you are taking other medications that are also processed through the liver, you will want to watch for signs of liver stress (i.e. yellowing of the skin, eyes, soreness of the abdomen). Should any of these symptoms begin, discontinue immediately. According to the research, this rarely occurs. There is medical research that shows significant improvement in symptoms. Dosing: 40-80 mg once or twice a day.
Contraindicated in individuals with aspirin sensitivity. Avoid use in pregnancy and lactation. Premature birth may occur with large doses. Interactions - none well documented.
Adverse Reactions - Black cohosh is associated with a low incidence of adverse reactions. There are concerns regarding rare, but serious, hepatotoxicity. Toxicology - Overdose of black cohosh may cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, nervous system and visual disturbances, reduced pulse rate, and increased perspiration.
